Project Description

The idea is to make the treatment of waste from its selection and recycling. The aim is to sort, select, recycle and marketing the product .-

The most important part of the begins in the houses where the garbage begins to be classified in organic and inorganic waste and the bagging is made in green and red bags respectively. It is Also included pathogens, pollutants and domestic ones.

Organic waste such as remains are those of pruning, food, dirty and wet paper, egg shells, mud, ashes, rags .-

The glasses are inorganic, metals, plastics, polyethylene, rubber .-

Pathogens: Those remnants from health centers, human or animal, or laboratory: is composed of: dressing, medication, descartadle materials, including stationery .-

The dangerous ones include, batteries, batteries, chemicals, oils and metals (heavy and radioactive) .-

People should learn to separate at home organic waste in green bags, inorganic  in red bags, while the paper clean and dry should be prepared separately and pathogenicity  (disposable diapers, cotton swabs, gauze, bandages, syringes, needles, etc..) classified as hazardous by its ability to transmit diseases,will be , bagged, with organic (later to be separated and incinerated) .-

With no doubt, the process in which the trial and error will do a basic element of learning, both for participants and for the local government, because of  the limited experience.

Inspiration

Household solid waste is one of the most complex dilemmas to solve that are currently facing  the big cities and small towns. The daily amount of garbage produced per person each day ranges from 800 grs. to 2.5 Kgr, according to the welfare of the inhabitants, in my small town Andacollo the average daily is around 1 kg per person.

I was thinking about a response to this common problem with the collaboration of the community and in this sense, i felt the need to start to promote this idea.

Who will enjoy this the most?

Everybody'll enjoy it with a healthy & clean environment. It is based on 2 strategies, population’s awareness, using media (I believe it's essential garbage's separation should be done by neighbours in their homes), and the process of collection and treatment. Awareness and organization guarantee a positive response in the medium term. We seek to reach the entire community, because everybody, generate garbage. We’ll start with a witness experience: Working in a middle-class neighbourhood, around 120-150 families, if possible people with experience in innovative situations and the ability to mobilize the community. Students from the school district, should be included in the movement, with social workers who can promote the proposal among the community. We also want to incorporate students from a secondary school, with a social worker collaboration to teach some techniques of social management. NGO's, local media, press department of the local government have important roles too.

The Project

The technical and operational component needs a property for the use of the local solid wastes processing plant, if possible, based on municipal experiences working for the environment, it should be next to the  sewer plant in order to centralize a general space to contain waste. There should be taken into account the the direction of the main winds, so they do not affect the town spreading around the town the smells and it should be installed a pyrolytic oven to incinerate pathological wastes, with this we ensure a proper final destination of waste .-

In each house there is a first sorting of organic and inorganic. Organics should be collected daily in the evening , but daily, are again placed in the treatment plant. While the percentage of separation at home is high, it is necessary to do an additional separation in the plant.

Inorganic elements are selected and classified then stacked in boxes and compacted, .-

In Argentina there are four main markets for recoverable materials such as: Paper / Cardboard * Glass * Plastic (HDPE and LDPE-PET) Aluminum and tin sheet

With organic garbage is possible to produce the "compost": fertile land, is needed to achieve a variable period of time that depends on several factors: temperature, humidity, PH stable .-

The fertile soil or mature compost is used as fertilizer to improve production or affected lands. It also serves to feed the earthworm.
It is desirable that besides the urban solid waste plant processing ,it be created an organic vegetable garden which operates on the same site or near to it.

With the creation of organic gardens, with the output of it,  is possible to supply local hospitals, home child care centers and homes . Compost or soil can be also used to improve the production of the organic garden.

Hazardous Waste: such as batteries and batteries must be collected in schools, businesses, banks, shops and in the same township, and until there is a secure solution to this type of waste, it should be removed and bagging in 120 microns polyethylene film or packed in plastic bottles, add powdered sequestrant heavy metal  at a rate of 1 kg of batteries with 100 grs. powder; this bags or bottles should be tightly sealed and in blocks of cement or concrete. (These blocks are not used in construction and should be collected away from sources of moisture), until a safe solution to this waste, we should seek information from other forms of treatment.
