CSRpedia
Project Description
The project is a wiki to inform about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of companies.
Many companies have CSR policies and publish reports about their relationship with the environment, workers, sustainable development. Some of those companies carry out their compromises, others not. And some of those companies which carry out, might do more of what they do. So this project aims to collect information on CSR of companies around the world, and also to provide information, news, testimonies ... to check whether these policies are being met or not and how. Also to see where those policies fail and to check out how could be improved.
In the CSR-pedia users can enter information about the companies and expose their CSR policies, their evolution over time, reports, and also news, independent reports and ratings that show the reality of those policies.
CSR-pedia works in the same spirit of Wikipedia: users can incorporate the contents, but must be given an appropriate format, based on other sources (reference needed) and be neutral. Neutrality means to show the facts and truth. If a company says that respects human rights but there are several reports, documents, photos, etc that proves that company does not, in the wiki will appear the company's policy and those arguments too.
I think that if companies really leak on what they say, to be objective of public complaints can help to put pressure to change not only their words but their actions. There is a lot of information, but is very scattered. Thus, a wiki open to all those interested in the topic (business, organizations, people awareness ...) to organize this information can be very useful.
Inspiration
This idea was born after reading about CSR and how some companies use it to clean up their image, but they try to improve their behavior. I looked for information and I found many news about the commitments of the companies, and on the other hand, i found many other demands of human rights's violations, contamination ... And I thought it would be good to put all this information together in one place in order that everyone could easy access to it. At first I thought of organizing a blog about this, but a few weeks I realized that a blog was not useful for this project. That's why I decided to change and now I'm driving a wiki for this purpose where all the information would be decentralized and a lot of other people can contribute and verify the truth of what companies say and what their detractors say.
Who will enjoy this the most?
Anyone interested in knowing where their money goes when they buy, anyone interested on knowing what are the consequences of their actions. Moreover, investors who want to take into account a company's relationship with society and the environment before giving money to that company. People who want to know the history of a company. Communities that want to know if the companies which invest in their territory are socially responsible or not
The Project
For now, the project exists only in Spanish. I've created a wiki to develop it and I hope more people will join soon:
http://es.rsepedia.wikia.com/
I'll try to translate into English part of the entries to show you the project and how it works, but I cann't promise I'll do. The translation will be:
