David Evan Harris
David Evan Harris is a Research Affiliate at the Institute for the Future and Executive Director of the Global Lives Project, a non-profit media organization with more than 250 volunteer collaborators in 10 countries. His work with IFTF focuses on social change, political economy, the global south and new media.
David lived in Brazil from 2004-2007 as a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar, receiving a master's degree in Sociology from the University of São Paulo. His master’s thesis was a comparative study of the relationships between domestic workers and their employers in Brazil and the US. David received his B.A. in 2003 from UC Berkeley, where he created his own major in "political economy of development and environment."
In college David took part in the International Honors Program, where he spent eight months traveling and studying in Tanzania, India, the Philippines, Mexico, and the UK. In 2000, he held an internship at the White House Council on Environmental Quality and has since worked as a consultant to numerous non-profit and educational organizations in the US and Brazil.
In Brazil, David wrote and directed newscasts for CurrentTV. His writings and photographs have been published in print and online with the BBC, Adbusters, the Sarai Reader, Glimpse Magazine, Next American City, Focus on the Global South, Alternet and Grist. David’s written work has been translated into French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch and Chinese. David speaks fluent English, Portuguese and Spanish and intermediate French.
Mathias Crawford
Mathias is the Research Manager for the Technology Horizons program at Institute for the Future, and has taken over for Jess Hemerly as your friendly Digital Open Admin. He is particularly interested in how technologies develop in response to, and exert influence on, social, political, and individual concerns. He also researches and write about the future of infrastructure and the web of things. Mathias has an A.B. in History of Science from Harvard College, likes soccer, and grew up in Canada.
Jean Hagan
Over eight years ago Jean brought her lifelong passion for visual metaphors and more than fifteen years of experience in information design, branding and graphics production to IFTF. Her experience helped IFTF move toward new ways of presenting research material visually through maps, digital stories and many other methods.
She currently leads the communications, creative and production arm of the organization. In this role Jean oversees and collaborates with researchers, artists, writers, and storytellers to create and communicate IFTF work and the visual expression of the research.
In college Jean studied creative writing and journalism. She holds a liberal arts degree from St. Mary's College and a degree in design from the San Jose State University's School of Art & Design. Her career in commercial art began at age 10 designing print invitations for a family events company. Her professional career began in advertising in San Francisco the early 90’s and during the subsequent Internet boom she directed a variety of design, marketing and communications groups for small tech start-ups and large companies such as Softbank and Oracle.
Jody Radzik
Jody's design career began when he was hired to airbrush surfboards for Stüssy Designs in Laguna Beach, California. Along the way he's designed men's surfwear and branding for Gotcha Sportswear, rave flyers for events in San Francisco, a magazine called Morph's Outpost on the Digital Frontier, web design for various early net startups, advertising for defense contractors and a rifle company, finally coming to rest in the IFTF production department, where he helps design and produce print, web and video-based publications.
